Why do we transpose?

1. We transpose to put music into the right key for vocalists; sometimes the key in which it is written is either too high or too low to be sung properly, so the music is transposed to accommodate their vocal ranges
2. Different instruments work better in different keys. Some instruments, such as strings, are more comfortable playing and tuning in sharp keys, while brass and woodwinds prefer flat keys. If a piece is written in a key that is not comfortable to certain instruments, it can be transposed to make it more comfortable
